SMC required low maintenance and rugged PC for using ERP in the manufacturing area. As it is an Industrial environment, high heat, Dust and Humidity needs a rugged machine. Also they had a target to reduce the Total cost of Ownership. We initially Gave VXL model Itona Doos L5 F5R6VXL in year 2013 and Later smaller size device with lower power consumption VXL model TC K64F7R5 was provided. Both units were Linux embedded which further connect to Microsoft Remote desktop services to give a virtual desktop to the user.

CHALLENGES FACED BY THE CUSTOMER –
Trident Corporation Ltd required low maintenance and rugged PC for using ERP in the manufacturing area. As it is an Industrial environment, high heat, Dust and Humidity needs a rugged machine. Also they had a target to reduce the Total cost of Ownership. During our multiple discussions and further proof of concept we initially gave VXL model Itona C00 X1 F7R6 XP in year 2013. These were Windows XP embedded thin clients. These are mainly used to connect to Microsoft Remote desktop services to give a virtual desktop to the user. Trident went for windows embedded instead of Linux embedded as in case of disconnection from server, user can work locally on the windows thin client. Later we provided VXL THIN CLIENT TC6526-F9R7 WES with Latest windows embedded 2009 OS for the same requirement.

CUSTOMER – Macsteel Service Centres

SOLUTION PROVIDED – VXL ‘Itona’ thin clients

CHALLENGES FACED BY THE CUSTOMER –
As a organisation operating from 68 separate locations, the company faced a number of challenges regarding the efficient dissemination of information to the point of need. Initially a WAN infrastructure was created with desktop PC’s at the remote sites linking back to the head office mainframe. However, the large number of PC’s deployed created significant I.T. management and support issues as well as being a target for thieves.

BENEFITS THE CUSTOMER GAINED –
In the end, the VXL Itona was a clear winner. “The unit is reasonably priced, has no moving parts and uses far less power than a PC”. The VXL Itona units are configured at Macsteel HQ and shipped to the various locations throughout the country. There it is a simple “plug & play” operation for the local staff. “There is no need for an army of people to sort things out”.
The rollout of VXL Itona’s to Macsteel began in 2005 and they replaced the PC’s when they reached their planned end of life. To date nearly 800 VXL Itona desktops have been deployed throughout the organisation, with the assistance of Open Architecture Systems, providing Citrix design and support services to Macsteel and supplied by VXL’s South African Distributor, IT Wise.
